College Savings Month Tips

As parents, you do not have to be the only source for college savings. Here are some ways to get your kids involved and help them establish healthy money habits.

Open a Five Points Bank savings account

A great place to start is opening a Five Points Bank savings account. This will be a safe place to keep all their money and they will not be tempted to spend it.

Get a Job

If your kids have a part-time or full-time job during the summer, encourage them to use their wages to save for their college fund. They can even offer services to neighbors, friends or family to do chores, yard work, babysitting or watching pets.

Apply for Scholarships

Scholarships are FREE money that you don’t have to pay back. There is a wide variety of scholarships for students. Whether they excelled in athletics, community service, academics or extracurricular activities, encourage them to apply for any eligible scholarships. Every one adds up!

College Credit in High School

Taking college courses in high school can be very helpful. If your student passes the class they will be eligible to receive college credit, which could save you time and/or money in college. Take the time to talk to their academic counselor to get more information.
